
Event Overview
ICAR-AICRP(S), Nagaland Centre organised a training and input distribution programme on improved ginger cultivation practices at Kuhoxu village, Niuland district on 8th June 2026. The programme was conducted with financial support from the All India Coordinated Research Project on Spices, Kozhikode, Kerala, under the NEH Special Scheme.
Training Programme
A team from AICRP Spices (Nagaland Centre) conducted a comprehensive technical training session covering the complete package of practices for ginger cultivation. Farmers were educated on selection of quality planting material, land preparation, seed treatment, nutrient management, irrigation scheduling, weed management, integrated pest and disease management, and harvesting practices.
Special emphasis was given to the adoption of improved cultivars and cultivation techniques suitable for the agro-climatic conditions of Nagaland. Participants were also sensitised on the importance of organic and eco-friendly crop management practices for maintaining soil health and ensuring sustainable production.
Input Distribution
Agricultural Inputs & Farm Implements
Essential agricultural inputs and farm implements were distributed to participating farmers, including knapsack sprayers, hand hoes, spades, irrigation pipes, neem oil, and seed rhizomes — to facilitate efficient crop management and improve plant protection.
Participation
Farmers from Kuhoxu village actively participated in the training programme along with village council members. The participants showed keen interest in learning improved production technologies related to ginger and interacted enthusiastically during the practical sessions.
Programme Impact
The programme significantly enhanced farmers' awareness and technical knowledge regarding improved ginger cultivars and cultivation practices. The distribution of farm implements and crop management inputs is expected to improve adoption of recommended technologies, increase production efficiency, and contribute to higher productivity and profitability of ginger cultivation in the region.
